Why is it there are people on this forum who are CONSTANTLY putting down places like the Tropicana, Imperial Palace and even the Stratosphere.
Granted these places are not like the bellagio but dont people realise that most who visit vegas do not spend hours in their hotel rooms lapping up the luxuries. Most hop from casino to casino and only return to their room to lay their head or use the hotel pool.
So long as your hotel is in a good location and the rooms are clean I dont see what the problem is.
I am going to vegas in april for seven nights and will be staying at the Trop. Imagine how much seven nights at bellagio would cost me! How may hours do I intend to stay in my room, 2/3 sleeping at most per night.
Snobs and hotel/room reccomendatons
I agree with you completely. We always look for the best deals at a cheaper place leaving more money for other things.
Snobs and hotel/room reccomendatons
Fair comment. We were interested in the Tropicana having stayed at San Remo before. We were put off by the attitude when we enquired about prices - they basically were totally unhelpful. We later heard that the Trop is due either for demolition or refurbishment. With no date set it is hardly surprising staff have a don%26#39;t care attitude. We decided in the end to stay somewhere a little nearer the centre of the strip but still reasonably prices and went for Monte Carlo.
I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s ';snobbishness'; for the most part, but rather people just trying to help out. A lot of first-timers might not know, for example, that the Stratosphere is so far north and rather isolated on the strip.
I do agree, though, there are people who can%26#39;t seem to grasp that there%26#39;s a huge universe of travellers in the world who prefer, by choice, to seek out inexpensive lodgings on their travels in order to see more, do more, and travel more frequently--or frankly, to spend their money on things more important than having a marble vanity in a hotel room.
Some of the demeaning comments here in that regard are out of line.
I think you folks across the pond are more accustomed to B%26amp;B travel across the UK and Europe, so a bit of worn carpeting or an occassional whiff of mustiness won%26#39;t rattle you as long as the price and hotel location are right.
I agree that issues of ';old wallpaper'; (my personal favorite) are posted by folks who aren%26#39;t satisfied ANYWHERE. HOWEVER, there%26#39;s also a consideration of ';fit';. By that I mean, you%26#39;re going to feel more comfortable with some crowds over others-personally the RV/Satin-Jacket bunch is not my cup of tea ergo, I%26#39;m probably not going to frequent locales that particular group enjoys. My issue with the Strat is primarily its location-isolated from the rest of the strip, and the less than pleasant surroundings. If I%26#39;m going to LV for vacation, I want to be: a-reasonably close to everything major that%26#39;s going on and b-see crack-hooker and meth-heads in the area around my hotel. Finally as another poster mentioned attitude of the hotel staff is important-again it%26#39;s MY cash I%26#39;m putting down. I%26#39;ve found that the three hotels you mention are somewhat surly-at least in my experience.
Geez, allow me to elucidate on point ';b';. NOT see crack hookers and meth heads around my hotel. Otherwise anywhere N/NW of the strat would be my IDEAL vacation choice.
:)
I hope most people%26#39;s comments re: hotels aren%26#39;t coming from a snobby point of view but just a personal choice they make when vacationing. Since some of the older hotels in Vegas have rooms very similar to Motel 6 or Holiday Inn, many visitors to Vegas want to experience the wonderful hotels that they probably won%26#39;t have any other chance to stay in. From what I understand, even tho the rates can get high, they are still nowhere near what you would pay in any large city in USA so it is an opportunity (especially if you watch the rates and plan carefully) to stay some place wonderful.
Taking a vacation is something I sacrifice for so even tho I can%26#39;t afford the new Wynn property or the Bellagio, I will give up fancy dining choices to stay at Paris, etc.
When I%26#39;m in Vegas, I don%26#39;t get the feeling that anyone feels superior to others. Everyone is there to have a good time so I%26#39;m thinking that hotel choice is just another one of the choices we make and most postings on this forum are just trying to be helpful to others.
Yea those are the type of people who would complain at the drop of a dime...Bouge is what we call em, i mean seriously ur not going to vegas to hibernate in ur room, or maybe u are but hey thats ur thang...
goin to the excalibur in april and lovin every minute of the extraaa$$$$$ im saving on hotel room costs to put towards spending on cheesy gifts at the gift shops, but hey im a gal thats not hard to pplllleeassseee..
guess thats why hubby luvs me...
have fun on ur trip darth..
bella
I must be REALLY slumming it then because we are staying at the Plaza in early April!! I am actually excited to go and I heard the security is great on freemont street. Stayed on the strip the last 2 trips we made and am looking forward to some vintage vegas this time.
judl I cannot diagree with you more. I would NEVER compromise on my dining choices just to stay at the paris. The REASON I got to Vegas is to eat out, eat well, drink well and have fun. Not to stare at the decor of my room all day. Whenever I return to my room it is late (or early dependinng on how you look at it) and I crash for two hours, then wake up again in time to leave for breakfast.
If I was on a luxury vacation like a anniversary or honeymoon or something then yes, Bellagio or Wynn%26#39;s property would be more appealing.
Whoever mentioned the stratosphere area is right though, low life everywhere! However I was pleased with the casino/rooms of the strat and people on this forum complain about even that.
Darth,
Guess that is why they have a variety of hotels, restaurants, etc.
Personally, I have a small appetite and spending much on meals would be foolish.
I did eat at the Paris buffet because it was so highly recommended by this forum, but actually only ate a small cup of soup, cheeses, some wonderful bread, spoonful or so of some french dishes, and desserts. All delicious. Had a great clam chowder at Paris bakery, which is actually how I prefer to eat.
Sometimes wish I could enjoy large meals more, but I don%26#39;t so thus would be a waste of my money. When I hear people on this forum talk of spending $150 to $300 on a meal, my reaction is WOW. But to each his own and if you do enjoy great food, sounds like Vegas is the place for it.
