Grand Canyon: West, South, North Rim

Looking to take a plane or heli to the Grand Canyon. Am inclined to take the shorter trip to the West rim. If I only see the West Rim, am I missing out on something that should be seen? What is the difference between these locations?

Plane or heli is the way to go uinless you have a day and a half to spare. You cannot drive to West Rim and see anything unless you take a bus/heli from the Indian Reservation. This drive is not recommended as the road is horrible. Drive to South Rim is 12 hours minimum drive time total. North Rim I%26#39;m not familiar with.

I heard that the road to the West Rim was supposed to have been paved last December. We drove it last summer and about 15 miles of it was like driving over a washboard. It was beautiful there though; we did lunch at the rim of the canyon that the Indian Tribe provided, we enjoyed it. I%26#39;m sure you would see much more with the helicopter tour. We also went to the south rim a few years ago. It was also beautiful, so I wouldn%26#39;t say one area was better than the other.

The drive to the south rim is only about 5-6 hours. If you%26#39;re taking a flight, I would think it wouldn%26#39;t matter which rim you went to. The difference in driving is pretty big though; the west rim is quiet and in my opinion, not as colorful. The north rim is my favorite because it%26#39;s not as crowded as the south rim and has more green trees. The south rim is really the most commercialized of them all. If you were driving, I%26#39;d do the north rim. But if you%26#39;re flying over, does it really matter anyway? It%26#39;s still a big canyon in the ground. =)
