Craps Strategy

I have read the post on craps and am excited to play when I get there, especially the dollar tables at Casino Royale and such.

Just curious if any craps veterans have ideas or strategies they like to play with.

It sounds like the best way to play is the pass line, with odds and the come sometimes as well.

How often to play the come?

What is the diff between the Big6 and Big8 from just betting them on top individually (above the come)?

Thank everyone.....

Craps Strategy

apolus - The general rule on Come bets is to have your pass line bet plus odds and two come bets on the table. When one wins, then place another. Remeber that the chance of the seven coming up is pretty good after about 4 rolls.

Don%26#39;t bet the Big 6 or Big 8. The pay is 1:1.. If you bet the 6 or 8 point, the pay is 6:7 for the exact same bet.

Craps Strategy

Aplous,

Never, ever bet big 6 or big 8. This is a place bet that pays even money. If you want to bet 6 or 8, place them. The place bets pay 7:6. Check the Wizard of Odds website for the house advantage of all of the craps bets. There are a lot of high HA bets on the craps table, but the Big 6 and Big 8 are the only bets where an equivalent bet is also on the table that pays more.

Always play as many odds as you can afford. If you want to bet 10 a roll at CR, put the minimum on the passline and back it with the rest as odds. If all you can afford is $2 a roll, I%26#39;d place the 6 or 8. This isn%26#39;t as good mathematically as a passline bet with odds, but the 6 and 8 are the most likely numbers besides 7.

You also asked when to play the come. The come bet has the same HA as the pass bet. Play the come if you want more action. You%26#39;ll get paid more often, but lose more when the dreaded 7 comes.

My best advice, not a strategy is to make only the number of bets that you can keep track of. Nothing will wear down a dealers or other players patience faster than a player who is asking every 5 seconds which bets belong to him/her. Learn where your bets are and where your money will be paid when you win. Quite often any payoff not picked up becomes a new bet. And some casinos are not going to remind you to pick up your money.

A pass line bet with odds lowers the casinos advantage over you. A come bet should have odds placed on it as well. This will also lower the house advantage.

The difference between the Big 6 and the Big 8, is that when the 6 rolls the Big 6 gets paid and when the 8 rolls the Big 8 gets paid. Both have a house advantage of 16.66-20%.

Thanks guys---So, after I play the Come I can place odds on it as well? That seems like a good deal--

Bet the passline, then odds, then bet the come and put odds on it. Thats not too many bets, but still a good shot to win some $$$$$$.

Anyone with favorite houses to play?($5 or less??)

Hey Aplous,

Now that you have that strategy down, here%26#39;s another one for you.

Bet the pass line and take odds. Then put a place bet on the 6 and 8. If the 6 is the point, then place the 8, and possibly the 5 if you want to have three numbers working. If the 8 is the point, the place the 6, etc.

Although you do not get the true odds by using place bets, you have a better shot at hitting some 6%26#39;s or 8%26#39;s before you seven out.

I read about this strategy, and I%26#39;mthinking of playing it next time.

I have always played the passline, and two come bets with odds before, but I%26#39;m seriously thinking of switching tactics.

Knooter : '; Remeber that the chance of the seven coming up is pretty good after about 4 rolls.';

Actually, isn%26#39;t the chance of seven coming up the same on each roll. Each roll is independent whether the first roll or the twentieth roll. It%26#39;s like thinking that there%26#39;s more of a chance that red will come up if there were 3 blacks in a row (roulette). Common fallacy. Actually the odds don%26#39;t change. Just our perception of them.

i.m.o. just play pass with single odds, bet $5 on pass and take $5-6 odds,

a few two way yo or hardways is right thing to do win or lose,

you will keep your bank roll longer this way,

less money at risk.

as far as where to play for $5 i like santa fe ,golden gate, arizona charlies ,elcortez and i.p.

there is no way i will play at high end casinos

gumbeaux,

i agree 100%

One thing people fail to mention is before you play, check the table out. Are the players winning--cheers, happy bettors, looking at the table layout, are their chips on the numbers as well as chips on the racks? Be patient while waiting for your point cycles and place bets to show. If numbers such as-- 4,4 (8 hardways), 3,3 (6 hardways) 2,2 (4 hardways) 5,5 (10 hardways) keep appearing, throw a $1 chip to the stickman and say in a clear voice, ';dollar on the hard 8';. It pays 9:1 if the dice land in a 4,4 setting and the bet loses if 5,3 or 6,2 show. If it is a cold table, the points are not passing and you may consider, betting the Don%26#39;t Pass. Though this is not a popular bet for your fellow enthusiasts because you are betting against whoever is shooting, this may be the only safe bet when considering the reality of the situation. Like all things, craps players, myself included, are always waiting for the ';big one';, the big wave so to speak to ride to riches and splendor. Most of the time you%26#39;re trying not to lose your axe out there like my other fellow enthusiasts describe. Bet what you can afford. And if you ever get the inclination to pull your place bets down on 6,8, 5,9, 4 or 10, simply tell the dealer in a clear and commanding tone, ';take all my bets down';. There is so much superstition associated with this culture, a lot of it is based on real life sequences which may contribute to the end of a hot roll. Other than that, get a simple book at Borders by Patterson or John Patrick who is the best in explaining what you need to know about craps. It would be a good investment and save you a bunch at the tables beforehand. Good Luck to you all. Yo/Ace-Deuce

Gumbeaux - You are corrrect. The information I provided is based on a study of Craps tables that on the average the seven will show up on the 5th roll. Now, it may show up on the 1st roll or the 10th roll, but over time the average is on the 5th roll.

Many Craps strategies will tell you to take place your bets down after the 4th roll because of this study.
