Help Him Decide.

Hello everyone! Me and a long time friend are heading out to Las Vegas Next Sunday for 4 nights. My friend is having a rough time deciding where he wants to stay. I%26#39;ve been there 5 times going on 6 but this will be his first trip to Las Vegas.

I really don%26#39;t care where we stay just want him to be content.

The hotels we have picked so far are:

The Hotel $139 a night

NYNY $79 a night

Luxor $59 a night

Maybe Paris/Aladdin/Mgm

Please help.

Help Him Decide.

the Hotel, the Hotel, the Hotel!!!! Look, I%26#39;m not a big gambler, nor am I an expert of showgirls or how to get comped but I KNOW my hotels and the Hotel at Mandalay is BEAUTIFUL and you got an amazing rate, the rooms are superb. Mandalay Bay itself is my absolute favourite hotel as you can eat your dinner with hearing %26#39;ching-ching-ching%26#39; all the time doing your head in and I have never had a bad experence there, the staff are great. And the room is a total babe-magnet. Just bring a tie to put on the door knob.

I took my cousin and his g%26#39;friend from England there for their first trip to Vegas and we got wonderful treatment when I told the lady at the check-in it was their first time visiting...strip view, 33rd floor, right in the crease of the hotel. We also had House of Blues VIP passes waiting for us at the desk for that night from a lady we%26#39;d spoken to on the phone to confirm our reservation, along with a personal message. Nice touch.

On the other hand, NYNY tried to weasel out of a reservation we%26#39;d made 5 MONTHS in advance, which they had already charged us upon the time of booking, for the Labor Day weekend 2 years ago so I had to stand there and argue with the manager, with my printed out email confirmation in hand, while she tried to make me buy that ';a reservation doesn%26#39;t gaurentee a reserved room'; (what???? we finally did get our room but the hassle was enough to make us never go back - I know some people love it...different coloured jelly beans, I suppose) and the Luxor is very cramped and dark, not just my opinion. Most people tell me they stay there cos it%26#39;s cheap. MGM is a maze. Some people love it, some hate it. All I know is once, when I was with friends staying there, I had to walk members of our party back to their rooms after being there for 3 days cos I had the best sense of direction.

The others I%26#39;m not as familiar with so I wouldn%26#39;t want to comment but Mandalay Bay is a great way to introduce someone to Vegas. My cousin didn%26#39;t want to even go anywhere else and when we did, he was always itching to get back there to gamble, drink (the waitresses are lovely, as long as you tip, of course!) and hang out. I can%26#39;t recommend the Hotel strongly enough. Have a lucky trip, whatever you decide!

Thank you for such a detailed post! I really appreciate the time you put into it.

Hey, no problem! Karma, man! I%26#39;m here to glean as much info as possible too - I%26#39;m a comp virgin and need tips. But I wouldn%26#39;t put my 2 cents in and waste your time if I didn%26#39;t feel that I had an educated opinion to offer you and your friend. Even if you don%26#39;t stay there, it%26#39;s worth a visit. And get the club card cos if nothing else they make a nice momento of the trip. Quick story (I%26#39;m Irish, we love to tell stories!):

We were at the %26#39;Bay for 45 mins once and no waitress in sight around us so I walked up to a lady and asked her if she could help. True to the %26#39;waitress-code%26#39;, she said that it wasn%26#39;t her section and she%26#39;d get someone for us. When I explained (very nicely) that we%26#39;d been told that by another lady, which I had- she was getting off shift and I know how that is- and had been waiting nearly an hour, she was like ';oh, that%26#39;s not cool'; and took our orders. 5 mins later, we each had 3 beers a piece to make up for the wait! And she let the new waitress in our section that we weren%26#39;t cheap (I worked in a bar for years- grew up in one, so I always take care of the ladies, esp. in Vegas) and introduced us to her and we chatted and she told some fun stories (it was 3am, not exactly prime-time in the casino so she had time to hang with us a little) and we were never dry, even tho we were at the nickle slots - I%26#39;m not a big gambler, I like to play the old vid. poker and have my beer, smoke and a laugh and NOT feel like a leper. I work graveyard so it was afternoon for me, BTW! ;-) That slight lapse was SOOO made up!

I know I sound like I work for the place but I absolutely HATED my first time in Vegas and it took me 2 years to go back, with promises that if I didn%26#39;t have fun (and I have fun almost anywhere) we would leave but staying at the Mandalay made me do a 180 on the whole Vegas thing. Since then, I love it.

You guys will have loads of fun if you go to the Hotel - check out the Moorea Beach Club. The pool is over 21, topless sun-bathing is allowed (I know you%26#39;re guys but you might get an eyeful, I know my fella enjoys that and - bless him, if he didn%26#39;t, I%26#39;d check his pulse!) and you can get food, drinks, plush lounge chairs and chilled towels. The cover is $20 but it%26#39;s worth it.

Have a great time. Vegas is the most honest city in the world...it tells you right to your face that it%26#39;s gonna take your (hopefully disposable and not really missed) dough- sorry, I prob%26#39;ly sound like your Mum and I%26#39;m only 28! But you%26#39;ll have fun regardless. Good luck to you!

Another vote for Mandalay. Great hotel, great casino, and I%26#39;ll echo the praise for Moorea Beach Club, which is a great time for men and women, and well worth the coin.

I will say, however, that none of those you listed are bad choices. NY-NY is nice and in a good location, Luxor is pretty good, and MGM is one of my favorite hotels on the Strip. Aladdin and Paris are in prime location, and are nice hotels as well. So, you should be happy with any of those choices, but as Mandalay Bay is my favorite place to stay on the Strip, I%26#39;d definitely go that route, especially at $139 a night!

Hi helpdeskguy,

I have been to Vegas 15+ times and if it%26#39;s between the 3 hotels you listed I would go for theHotel hands down. But, I personally agree with the other posts for the money, atmosphere, safety, and amenities Mandaly Bay is great. For what it%26#39;s worth here are my top five picks for Vegas.

1. Mandalay Bay

2. Monte Carlo

3. Bellagio (which I think would be similiar in price to theHotel.)

4. Mirage

5. Caesars

Hope you have a good time and enjoy Vegas.

Sorry if this is a repeat post.

Where did you get The Hotel for $139/night. I am going LV in May, and cheapest is $305 so far on some hotel site?

Thanks

Can I ask where you are getting res for The Hotel at $139? I am trying to book in May, and getting no less than $300? Thanks

Here%26#39;s a different view:

Take the Luxor @ $59.00!

The Luxor and Mandaly Bay are connected, so it%26#39;s just a short walk if you want to spend most of your time at MB.

Take the $80.00 you save and give $40.00 to your friend and keep $40.00 for yourself. That will give you meal $$ and gambling $$.

Hey, a decent room and $40.00 cash in your pocket...who wouldn%26#39;t be content with that???

Have a great time, wherever you decide to stay!

WestLA,

Were you kidding about the ';tie on the door knob'; thing? Sorry if I am showing my Vegas virginess

I%26#39;m a fan of nice hotels at a great price and I%26#39;m with the other poster who mentioned Luxor. Their rooms were very nice and it looks like you%26#39;d get a smokin%26#39; deal at $59 a night!

Good luck deciding and have a fabulous trip! =)
