Gas prices in LV.......

Considering taking the upfront fuel charge of $2.37/gallon with my Alamo rental at the end of April visit.

With gas prices currently $2.20-$2.30 and rising, would this be a good addition? I mean, if gas goes OVER the agreed charge, will they honor the $2.37 rate or will they recalculate??

Usually you can find cheap gas station before getting to the rental car place.

Gas prices in LV.......

I know, but what I%26#39;m trying to find out is if you accept the upfront gas at a set price and gas rises OVER that price, will you stil pay the original gas price? Right now (3/16) gas in LV varies from $2.17 to $2.35 but is expected to rise......

I would recommend you use the upfront fee - currently gas prices are at $2.30 and up here in Vegas and they are only going up. Last night news reported gas prices could very well hit $3.00 a gallon by years end. Las Vegas has the 2nd highest prices in the nation - first - Hawaii

does this mean to that airline prices will go up to???

Everything is going up guys including food!!! Just went to Wal-Mart last night to buy groceries and couldn%26#39;t believe how much the price of food has gone up!!! Let%26#39;s face it, they are putting the screws to everyone and no one is doing a thing about it!!!

I never pay the upfront price for this reason. They charge you for a full tank. If you only use 1/2 tank.. then you still pay for the whole thing. It%26#39;s rare to use the whole tank. The car company we rented from charged the rate for the tank capacity. I%26#39;ll take my chances and fill up on my own.

HBK - News announced that several airlines have already increased rates by $10-$20 due to fuel cost just last week. Southwest only increased by $5. You can assure yourself if fuel prices go up so will the cost of flying.

One thing about airlines - they purchase thier fuel in futures - in other words, they purchase their fuel 6 mos to a year out, this to keep stable cost of flying. Any increase in fuel at this time will affect cost months out in the future.

As for the post re- not always using a full tank - if your trip includes driving out to Hoover dam - Red Rocks, etc. you will easily use a full tank. Usually I find it cost effective to purchase the full tank based on time (not having enough of it) and convenience. Usually I come close to using a full tank where ever I am. If you are just going to park it and walk the strip - then I agree, don%26#39;t use the re-pay and stop at a 7-11 for a quick fill up before hitting the airport. But don%26#39;t look for a station between the strip and the airport - not one yet available.

I was wondering about the upfront gas prices myself for rental vehicles. Here in AZ the prices just got up a little over $2.00. We were figuring by mid-May when we head to Vegas it would be pushing around $2.40+. Which is scary for all of us, but we gotta take a vacation. =)

I%26#39;d ask the rental place though if they would recalculate or not. That is a valid question and they shouldn%26#39;t be offended by you asking.

Thanks for posting this one. I hadn%26#39;t thought about too much before!

hi guys you see being british has one benifit we here in the uk pay $8.25 a gallon and our food is extremley expensive, that is why we come to the states for our holidays , we are landing in LA this sunday for 2 weeks, so when i see your posts on the price of fuel i am sorry but i found it quite funny (sorry not ment to be cruel) i cant wait to get over there i love going to your gas stations( petrol stations) in uk and filling up. ps our weather is crap as well, but we get free medical insurance.

cheers simon

I get tickeled when I hear people complain about high gas prices. Guess most are not old enough to remember the oil embargo of the 70%26#39;s when gas jumped fro .30 to $1 per gallon. That might sound cheap then, but when adjusted for inflation that comes out to about $7 per gallon today.
